Apartment or house
An apartment: 3 apartments from $1,731, in The Panoma, about 100 m² with a view of the Han river, a pool, a gym and security downstairs. An apartment is easier: no garden to look after, a guard at the door and a lift for the pushchair.
A house: 3 houses from $962, in Hai Chau, the centre, next to the local market and shops, and in Thanh Khe, 300 m from the beach. A house gives you more room for the money and your own front door, but usually stairs over three or four floors and no pool. Which area for a family
Schools decide more than the view: the international schools, their fees and the areas around them are in our guide to Da Nang with kids. Families mostly choose Ngu Hanh Son, next to the international schools SIS and APU, or the river towers of Son Tra; from Hai Chau the schools are 20-30 minutes across a bridge. What you pay on top of the rent
Electricity by meter at the EVN tariff, water at the state rate, internet and cleaning are not in the price. With three bedrooms and three air conditioners the electricity bill is the one to ask about before you sign; a typical month is in our guide to utility bills. The deposit is usually one month, rent is usually paid three months at a time, and a twelve-month lease gives the best monthly price.
