Da Nang with children works if you have decided two things in advance: the school and the side of the river. There are several international schools with English-language programmes in the city, and almost all of them stand on the southern beach side, in Ngu Hanh Son. Families with school-age children settle near the school or in the river towers; our two-bedrooms start at $731 a month as of 09.10.2026. Below: the schools with addresses, what things cost, where to live, and what is awkward about Da Nang with kids.

International and bilingual schools

What we know as of 27.09.2026 from the schools' own sites and aggregators; fees change every year, check before applying.

  • Singapore International School (SIS) Da Nang. Vung Trung 3 street, Phu My An urban area, Ngu Hanh Son. Two pathways, international and integrated with the Vietnamese curriculum, from kindergarten to high school. For 2026-27, paid annually, the international programme runs from 528 million dong a year in Years 1-3 to 664 million in the final A Level year, and the integrated programme from 268 to 318 million. On entry add a 2.9 million placement test and a registration fee of 8.6-21.5 million.
  • APU American International School, Da Nang. 299 Tran Dai Nghia, Ngu Hanh Son. American K-12 programme. The school's own fee sheet for 2026-27, paid annually: pre-school 249 million dong, Grades 1-2 340 million, Grades 6-8 494 million, Grades 11-12 597 million. On top: a 3-4.5 million test fee, a facility fee for new students of 10-15 million a year, and lunch at about 22-24 million a year.
  • Skyline. A Vietnamese school with bilingual classes, two campuses in Da Nang; cheaper than the international schools, Vietnamese curriculum.
  • Greenshoots. An international school in Hoi An, 30-40 minutes from Da Nang; some families in the south of the city drive their children there.
  • Gorizont. A Russian-curriculum school and kindergarten operating in Da Nang and Nha Trang, for Russian-speaking families. In Da Nang it is at 31-33 Le Tan Toan in the An Hai quarter near My Khe: kindergarten for ages 3-7 and school Grades 1-8. For 2026-27 the school is 11.25 million dong a month with meals, about $430, 13.75 million with after-school care to 15:00 and 15 million to 17:00, plus a 5 million annual enrolment fee; kindergarten 7.5-12.5 million a month.
  • More English-medium schools near the city: The St. Nicholas School in Hoa Xuan with an American curriculum, Odyssey International School between Da Nang and Hoi An, an IB candidate, and Hoi An International School with the Cambridge programme; since 2025 Hoi An is administratively part of Da Nang too.

The order of magnitude: an international school in Da Nang costs hundreds of millions of dong a year, roughly $800-2,100 a month per child on annual payment, from 249 million a year for APU pre-school to 664 million for the final A Level year at SIS, and it is the biggest line in a family budget after rent, and often bigger than rent. How that adds up per month is in our cost of living guide.

Kindergartens

There are many: international ones attached to the schools, private English-language ones, Vietnamese public and private ones. English-language kindergartens cost noticeably less than the schools, Vietnamese ones several times less, and many families with small children choose those: the child picks up the language within six months. We do not keep a list of kindergartens; tell us in the form where you will live and we will name the nearest ones our clients know.

Where families live

Three options: two on the east bank and the centre on the west bank.

  • Ngu Hanh Son, the south: next to SIS and APU, villas with gardens, resort compounds, the quietest. The centre is 20-30 minutes away. Area page: Ngu Hanh Son; pool villas are on the villas and houses page.
  • The river towers on the east bank: The Monarchy in Son Tra (6 apartments of ours from $731), The Panoma at the Tran Thi Ly bridge in Ngu Hanh Son (24 apartments of ours from $654). Both buildings have a pool, The Panoma a playground as well; the schools are 15-25 minutes by scooter or car. Our four-bedroom beach villa with a pool on Phan Ba Vanh is in Son Tra too, at $2,684. Area page: Son Tra.
  • Hai Chau, the centre: two-bedrooms in The Vista Residence from $846, but the schools are 20-30 minutes across a bridge. Fine if the school is Vietnamese or the child is still in kindergarten. Area page: Hai Chau.

We usually steer families with children away from An Thuong. It is loud in the evenings, and pools and courtyards are rare in its low-rise serviced buildings, so ask about them for the specific building. All parts of the city compared in the guide to the best areas to live.

Family apartments in our catalogue

As of 09.10.2026, furnished: two-bedrooms, 23 apartments from $731. Three-bedrooms, 3 apartments from $1,731. Townhouses, 6 houses from $962. Villas, 2 villas from $2,684. All of them are in the catalogue with a bedrooms filter.

All apartments are on the apartments for rent page. If you need a three-bedroom near a particular school, put the school's name in the form: the agent searches across the whole city.

Healthcare

Clinics working in English with paediatricians: Family Medical Practice at 96-98 Nguyen Van Linh, open Monday to Saturday 8:00-17:00 and Sunday to 12:00 with a 24-hour emergency line; Vinmec on 30 Thang 4 street with a paediatrics, neonatology and vaccination centre; and the private Hoan My hospital at 291 Nguyen Van Linh with a children's department and 24-hour emergency. All three are on the city side, 10-15 minutes from the east bank. International insurance for a child is a compulsory budget line; without it a night in a private clinic costs as much as a month's rent.

What is awkward with kids

  • Scooters. The city runs on them, and taking a child to school on a scooter every day is a decision not everyone is ready for. A car with a driver or Grab taxis cost from $150-250 a month, and that has to be budgeted.
  • The rainy season, October to December: the school run through flooded streets, classes cancelled in a typhoon. What to check in an apartment before the season is in our rainy season guide.
  • Pavements. A pushchair works on the promenade and the beach road; in courtyards and side streets it does not.
  • Heat from April to August: playgrounds are usable before nine in the morning and after five in the afternoon.

The upsides that make people put up with all that: the sea every day, a pool in the building, safety, affordable nannies and clubs, children from a dozen countries in one class.

Documents for children

Children travel on their own visas or on a parent's, depending on its type; the owner registers temporary residence for everyone living in the apartment. How visas and registration work is in our guide to moving to Da Nang; not legal advice, and the rules change.
