Since 1 July 2025 Da Nang has had no districts. The six urban districts and their 36 wards were merged into 12 wards, the rural Hoa Vang district became three communes, and the province of Quang Nam was folded into the city, which now stretches from the Hai Van pass to Chu Lai. The change came with Resolution 1659/NQ-UBTVQH15 of 16 June 2025. For a tenant it means one practical thing: the address on your lease and your temporary residence registration now reads "ward, Da Nang city" with no district in between, and the ward is probably not the one your landlord grew up saying.

This page maps the old names to the new ones for the parts of the city where people actually rent, and explains why our area pages still use the old district names.

Source: Resolution 1659/NQ-UBTVQH15 as published on the government's policy portal, checked 27.09.2026. The rest of Hoa Vang became three rural communes: Hòa Vang from Hòa Phong and Hòa Phú, Hòa Tiến from Hòa Khương and Hòa Tiến, and Bà Nà from Hòa Ninh and Hòa Nhơn. The resolution itself took effect on the day it was adopted, 16 June 2025; the new ward governments started work on 1 July.

Son Tra ward is not where you think

This is the one that confuses people. "Son Tra" used to mean the whole east bank: the river towers, the beach blocks, the peninsula. Now Son Tra ward is only the northern third, the old Tho Quang, Nai Hien Dong and Man Thai: the fishing port, the foot of the peninsula, the blocks north of Pham Van Dong beach. The part where nearly all foreigners live, from the Dragon Bridge to My Khe beach, is An Hai ward.

So an apartment in The Monarchy, Azura or Hiyori now has "An Hai ward" on its address, while everyone, including the landlord, will keep calling the area Son Tra. On our site the Son Tra area page covers the old district, the way people search for it, and says on each building which ward it is in.

Ngu Hanh Son ward is now very big

The four old wards of the southern beach district merged into one Ngu Hanh Son ward: My An with the An Thuong café quarter, Khue My with the FPT and university area, Hoa Hai with the marble mountains and resort strip, Hoa Quy inland. One ward from the beach to the Co Co river. An Thuong and My An have no official status any more, but they are still the names on the cafés, the agencies and the Facebook posts, so we kept them as area pages.

Hai Chau got smaller and Hoa Cuong appeared

The old Hai Chau district, the city centre on the west bank, split in two. Hai Chau ward is the historic core: the old Hai Chau, Thach Thang, Phuoc Ninh, Thuan Phuoc and Thanh Binh, which is Han market, the Bach Dang promenade, the Filmore and the older office streets. Hoa Cuong ward is the southern half, the old Hoa Cuong Bac and Nam, Binh Thuan and Hoa Thuan Tay: Lotte Mart, the Tien Son bridge end. What to write on documents

  • Lease: house number, street, ward, "Da Nang city". No district. If your landlord's template still has "quan" (district) in the address line, ask for it to be removed or crossed out; it does no legal harm but the police station handling your registration will use the new ward.   • Temporary residence registration: done by the landlord at the ward police, online through the national portal or in person. The ward is the new one. If the landlord registers you under an old ward name the system will not accept it. How the registration works and how to check it was done is in the temporary residence guide.
  • Bank, phone company, delivery apps: they updated their address lists during 2025, but some still show the old wards. Pick the new one when both are offered.

Why the old names will not die

Because they are useful. "Son Tra" tells a foreigner which side of the river you mean; "An Hai" tells them nothing yet. Google Maps, listing portals and agents all still use district names as the first filter, and search volumes show it: people look for "Son Tra apartment" and "My An Da Nang", not for "An Hai ward".
