Son Tra is Da Nang's east bank: the strip between the Han river and My Khe beach, from the bridges in the south to the peninsula and its mountain in the north. Almost every new tower with a pool is here, most foreigners live here, and so do 10 apartments from our catalogue, from $731 to $1,000 a month as of 09.10.2026. Another 24 of ours are in The Panoma at the southern end of the same bank, by the Tran Thi Ly bridge; by address that is already Ngu Hanh Son. Public listings across 14 buildings in the area run wider, from about $250 in the old blocks to $1,140 in the new river towers.
A word on the name. Since 1 July 2025 Vietnam has no districts as a level of government, and the name Son Tra now officially belongs only to the northern part of the former district, by the peninsula. The part where foreigners live, between the Dragon Bridge and the beach, is officially An Hai ward. We kept "Son Tra" because that is what people search for; the details are in our guide to the new ward names.
Who it suits
People staying for months who want the sea, a newer building and a normal city life at the same time. My Khe beach is five to fifteen minutes on foot or by scooter from anywhere in the area, the centre is five to ten minutes across a bridge, and the Son Tra peninsula with its mountain and the Linh Ung pagoda is where you ride in the evening. In the river towers like The Monarchy and Azura the neighbours are Vietnamese families and foreigners mixed; nearer the beach there are more Koreans and Russians, and cafés and agencies that work in English.
Who it does not suit: anyone after quiet and cheap. The beach side costs a third to a half more than the city side for the same apartment, and the beach road, Vo Nguyen Giap, is loud in the evenings.
Rent prices
Our apartments in Son Tra as of 09.10.2026, USD per month, furnished: 10 apartments. Two-bedrooms from $731 to $1,000.
Market medians from public listings, older blocks first: Blue House $190, An Trung 2 $250, Son Tra Ocean View $380, Hiyori $590, The Monarchy $800, Azura $760, Alphanam $760, Sun Ponte $720. For comparison, The Panoma just across the area line is $840. The samples are small and mix apartment sizes; for Vicoland and the Euro Village villas there are too few prices for a median. Asking prices, not signed ones; twelve-month leases usually land lower.

What is nearby
- My Khe beach along the whole area; north of it, Pham Van Dong beach, calmer and more local.
- The Dragon, Han and Tran Thi Ly bridges: three ways into the centre, each five to ten minutes by scooter.
- Vincom shopping centre on Ngo Quyen, the An Hai Bac and Phuoc My markets, a supermarket in every block.
- Hospital 199 on Nguyen Cong Tru is the nearest large one; private clinics working in English are in the centre and the south.
- The Son Tra peninsula: the mountain, the Linh Ung pagoda, the viewpoints, 15-25 minutes by scooter from the residential blocks.
- International schools are further south in Ngu Hanh Son, a 15-25 minute ride.
The downsides
Said plainly so nothing surprises you after moving in:
- Wind and salt. Upper floors by the sea get the wind, metal rusts, windows fog with salt after a storm. The upside is not needing air conditioning in the evening.
- Construction. The area is still being built out; cranes work next to the new towers. Ask what is going up opposite.
- Beach-road noise in the evenings and at weekends, worst in summer.
- Rainy season. Low blocks by the river and in the north around Nai Hien Dong stand in water in October to December; what to check in a building before the season is in the rainy season guide.
To compare with the city side, see Hai Chau; with the southern coast, Ngu Hanh Son; with the walkable café quarter, An Thuong. The city as a whole is in the guide to the best areas to live.
